Genre-based Teaching Approach: Theoretical Basis and Improvement Strategies

Abstract
Genre-based teaching approach is an approach to improve students' genre awareness and genre ability by means of genre analysis, genre deconstruction and genre construction in foreign language teaching. Currently, there are two typesof genre-based teaching approaches, ESP and SFL, which have their own advantages and limitations. To develop ability oriented genre-based teaching activities by combining the genre analysis approach of "language and function" in SFL and the genre analysis approach of "rhetoric and language" in EPS can promote and optimize genre-based teaching practice and improve students' genre awareness and genre ability.
