A Case Study of College English Pronunciation in the Context of Engineering Education Accreditation

  • Under the context of engineering education accreditation, taking 2017 non-English Major Freshmen of Anhui University of technology as the research object, a questionnaire survey is made to investigate the present situation of English pronunciation foundation, the attitude towards opening pronunciation course and the difficulties in pronunciation learning. Results show that: first, more than 90% of the respondents have not systematically and comprehensively learned pronunciation knowledge in primary and secondary schools; second, 61.7% of the respondents think it is necessary to set up pronunciation course for non-English major freshmen; third, 73.5% of the respondents think it is necessary to set up an optional English pronunciation course independently; last, as far as the difficulties in pronunciation learning are concerned, the most difficult English phonetic symbol is diphthong, consecutively followed by nasal sound and voiced consonant.
