Translator's Narrative Intervention in GuHongming's Translation Work of The Universal Order or Conduct of Life Under Confucian Moral Demands

In the English version of The Universal Order or Conduct of Life, GuHongming, a translator in the late Qing Dynasty, constantly appears in the translation to explain or comment, forming a unique phenomenon of translator's narrative intervention. Driven by Confucian moral demands, GuHongming narrated the original text again by means of explanation, evaluation, generalization and other intervention means. On the one hand, he quotes copiously from many sources and makes great efforts to highlight the unique value of Confucian morality. On the other hand, he goes beyond the text and points to the real world, pointing out the way out and direction for the moral dilemma of western society.
