The Causes and Effects of the Prevalence of Schistosomiasis in Huizhou in the Early Days of New China

  • In the early days of New China, schistosomiasis was the most harmful disease among the epidemics in our country.Oncomelania snails are the only intermediate host for the development and growth of schistosome eggs, and the prevalence of snails is an important factor in the prevalence of schistosomiasis. The climate and landforms of Huizhou provide suitable habitats for oncomelania snails.Paddy farmland has become the foci of schistosomiasis; poor sanitation in rural areas and people's weak awareness of prevention are also important factors leading to long-term schistosomiasis epidemics. The prevalence of schistosomiasis has caused a large number of local population deaths and houses collapsed; farmland is barren, labor force is reduced, and life is poor; young people are weak in physical fitness, which affects national defense.
