  • Nurtured by her own profound philosophical background, Alice Murdoch constructed an aesthetic view of novels with a unique moral undertone. In this aesthetic system, Murdoch’s novels are not abstract and empty moral concepts, but actual individuals in concrete situations, and she tried to build her novels into a “house” that can accommodate free people and become a “hall” for readers to reflect on, so as to achieve the goal of allowing readers to reflect on their own moral values. She tries to build her novels into “houses” that can accommodate free people and “halls” for readers’ reflection, so as to achieve the purpose of writing that can make people “become less cruel”.
