A Study of the Correlation between English Listening Comprehension Ability and Phonetic Knowledge of Agricultural College Students in Western China

Abstract
This study conducted a questionnaire survey on sophomore majoring in non-English disciplines at a western agricultural college, and integrated phonetic knowledge explanation and training into English listening courses to examine the role of different phonetic knowledge in improving students’ English listening comprehension ability. The research finds that familiarizing non-English major students with English phonetic knowledge indeed enhances their English listening comprehension ability and improves their English speaking proficiency.
