A Survey of Non-English Major Undergraduates’ English Learning Engagement

Abstract
Learning engagement is an important indicator of the quality of higher education. This study aims to explore non-English major undergraduates’ English learning engagement by questionnaire and its relationship with English grades. The survey of 291 undergraduates showed that (1) their behavioral, emotional and cognitive English learning engagement were on the medium level; (2) the three specific learning engagement were significantly and positively related with English grades, and the behavioral learning engagement could significantly influence English grades; (3) high achievers’ behavioral learning engagement was significantly higher than low achievers; (4) female students’ behavioral learning engagement level was significantly higher than male students.
