Abstract
In response to issues such as low student engagement and a lack of diversity in course formats in college physical education (PE), this study, based on the educational concept of sports-education integration, proposes that higher education institutions should emphasize the balanced development of students’ academic studies and physical exercise. It aims to guide students in adopting a “health-first” mindset and enhance their participation and experience in physical activities by building a diversified college PE curriculum system. To achieve this, the study offers the following recommendations for curriculum development: enhancing teachers’ capacity for curriculum design; formulate innovative teaching plans; optimize instructional process design; enrich extracurricular activities; develop specialized course types; and improve the evaluation mechanism for students’ learning progress.
