A Study on Forts in Xinyang Area during the Republic of China

  • During the Republic of China, there were many types of forts in Xinyang area. They are mainly divided into “civilian forts”, “dyke forts” and “bunker forts”, with distinct characteristics of large quantity, large scale and exquisite materials. The reasons for repairing are closely related to different factors of natural environment, social unrest and the main body of repairing. The use of civilian fort has two sides, most of them are places of refuge for the people, and some of them have developed into places of unrest. The Communist Party of China (CPC) actively publicized and mobilized the enlightened and neutral dyke fort to join the revolutionary torrent, but advocated a breakthrough by force against the hostile dyke fort, which achieved good diversification and utilization results; for those Kuomintang bunkers or Japanese enemy bunkers with strong reactionary connotation, the Communist Party of China (CPC) not only used flexible strategies and tactics to break down a large number of military bunkers, but also smashed the enemy encirclement and suppression, effectively preserved the revolutionary kindling and accelerated the historical process of the revolution.
