Written in the Vernacular: A NLTK-Based Study of Ha Jin’s Translational-Styled Writing

The study takes Ha Jin’s works Waiting, War Trash, and A Free Life as the research objects, introduces Python language and natural language toolkit(NLTK), and tries to examine the data features and textual characteristics of Ha Jin’s translational-styled writing, and try to build a model of his translation writing and sort out the extension and connotation of his writing ideas. The study finds that Ha Jin’s novels in Chinese are a good example of the Chinese language. The study finds that although traces of Chinese language legacy abound in Ha Jin’s novels, this kind of transliterated writing is not the result of a lack of ability, but a deliberate writing strategy, which is his strange trick to open up the English market and has a positive effect on the active dissemination of the Chinese image, and is an effective attempt for Chinese writers to break out from the crowd of native English writers.
