A Study of Film Adaptation from the Perspective of Intertextuality: The Power of the Dog

  • The film The Power of the Dog further develops the critique of gender roles present in the original fiction, while integrating feminist perspectives within the Western genre. Through an intertextuality lens, an examination of the cinematic adaptation of The Power of the Dog along poetic and ideological paths reveals the shift in narrative techniques from personalized to abstract narrator. The adjustment of narrative levels reflects the depth of perspective transformation, while the adaptation of eros and power expresses a critique of human nature, desires, and power dynamics.
