Translation of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China from the Perspective of Thick Translation

The literature of the CPC represented by XI JINPING: The Governance of China contains various political terms and rich traditional Chinese culture, increasing the difficulty in translation. The thick translation theory can compensate for the lack of background information on politics, culture and so on caused by intercultural communication, promoting cultural exchange and helping China obtain a greater sound in the global governance. This paper analyzes the English version of XI JINPING: The Governance of China Ⅲ and discovers a large body of typical thick translation strategies. Inside the text, the thick translation strategies include chapter note, heading note, illustration, etc. Outside the text, the thick translation strategies include preface, headings and index, etc. It is found that, whether inside or outside the text, each form of thick translation applied to the English version of XI JINPING: The Governance of China Ⅲ has played a vital role and set an example for the translation of Party literature. Therefore, the thick translation theory is of great significance to the translation and transmission of Party literature.
