Abstract
This paper utilizes the New Mobilities Paradigm to point out that the novel Breath contains three levels of mobility and immobility: geographic, social, and psychological. Through the confrontation and mutual transformation between mobility and immobility, Tim Winton depicts the historical transition faced by Australian society in the 1970s, conveying the ambivalence with which Australians approach social renewal and the expectation of rebuilding a better life.
