Abstract: In the dimension of language, Lin Yutang's translation of the expressive text The Biography of Ying-ying was transformed into a modern short story form from a legendary form integrating "history", "poetry" with "comment". The translation version retains the clear and smooth original language style by taking "sentence" as the unit; in the dimension of culture, through the translation skills of omission, amplification, transliteration, literal translation, annotation, and other methods, Lin strived to vividly convey the cultural information in order to spread the Chinese culture. Also, through the adaptation, amplification and other methods, Lin has shaped a different image of Yingying from the original one, which satisfied the western readers' expectations of oriental women.
