Growing up in Runaway: Spatial Representations of Trauma in Alice Munro's Train

Abstract: In Train, Alice Munro skillfully lays out the characters' traumatic experiences in a non-linear narrative and different spatial scenes. The runaway of Jackson and Bell stems from the rupture of self-space caused by sexual trauma, and they rebuild a home space with a sense of boundaries in the tacit understanding of asexual siblings. In different spatial experiences, Jackson and Bell gradually accept others and themselves. They heal their traumas and grow up in the course of running away, achieving spiritual rebirth.
