Abstract:
As a representative work of postcolonial counter-narrative,
Wide Sargasso Sea unveils the true identity of the "madwoman" in
Jane Eyre, introducing the issue of Creole women's identity. The novel's social spaces not only form its backdrop but also serve as key elements in shaping the protagonist's identity. Through analyzing the process of constant construction and deconstruction of protagonist Antoinette's identity within these spaces, the novel mirrors Rhys's own identity dilemmas and delves deeply into the self-attributes and cultural identity positioning of the Creole women group in postcolonial history.
