Abstract:
The translation strategy of
Stone Mountain Medical Case Histories, China's first monograph on medical cases, reflects Western expectations for translating classical Chinese medical case literature. In terms of source text, the translator adopts the strategy of selecting officially revised edition of Chinese
Stone Mountain Medical Case Histories. In the dimension of target text orientation, the translator employs the strategy of conforming to the linguistic norms and cultural conventions of the reception world. As for the target text construction, the translator excerpts the source text's content on the basis of her illustration points; translates the source text's terminology by means of a "literal translation + amplification + transliteration" method; and translates the source text's discourse by turning to restructuring information units, sacrificing rhythm and prosody, clarifying the shared-knowledge information hidden in the source text, and integrating classical Chinese clauses by applying English complex sentences. This three-dimensional strategy provides significant reference for translating classical Chinese medical case literature.
