Abstract: Byatt designs in her quartet the shocking sadomasochism complex and exposes the persecution from the western patriarchal society environment on females that is connected with the establishment of female identity by violence to meet the needs of patriarchal orientation. And this complex not only describes the female living predicament in western countries but also their awakening and rebellion against the oppression from patriarchal hegemony.
