Abstract:
As the first trading port opened by Western powers along the Yangtze River in Anhui, Wuhu is known as the vanguard of modernization and the birthplace of democratic revolution in Anhui Province. From 1854 to 1876, three serial reports about Wuhu appeared in Shanghai English newspapers and periodicals, which showed the city image and style of Wuhu before its opening to the world. Through translation and research, this paper provides important materials for the understanding of the early urban development process of Wuhu in modern times.
