Industrial Robots, Total Factor Productivity and Manufacturing Growth

  • 摘要: 基于中国制造业以及CRIA工业机器人省际面板数据,通过构建中介效用模型,实证检验全要素生产率在工业机器人与制造业增长之间的中介传导作用。工业机器人对制造业增长的影响可分为直接效应和全要素生产率中介传导效应,其中:工业机器人对制造业增长的直接效应解释了总效应的82.45%,而全要素生产率作为中介效应仅解释了总效应的17.55%。进一步研究发现:工业机器人促进制造业增长的全要素生产率中介效应主要是通过技术进步传导,而非技术效率。

     

    Abstract: As an important artificial intelligence, the use of industrial robots can help boost manufacturing growth. Based on the Chinese manufacturing industry and the provincial panel data of CRIA industrial robots, this paper empirically examines the mediating role of total factor productivity in the transmission between industrial robots and manufacturing growth by constructing a mediated utility model. The effect of industrial robots on manufacturing growth can be divided into direct effect and total factor productivity mediated transmission effect, where the direct effect of industrial robots on manufacturing growth explains 82.45% of the total effect, while total factor productivity as a mediated effect explains only 17.55% of the total effect. This paper further finds that the total factor productivity mediating effect of industrial robots for manufacturing growth is mainly transmitted through technological progress rather than technical efficiency.
